Live Photography

May 5th, 2010

Went to a great show last Friday night and I learned a lot about event photography in low light. I was shooting with a 500D next to two other photographers who were shooting with a 7D and even one photographer had a 5D Mark II. Had some great conversations and have really come to realize I just need better glass. Non-the-less, here are some of the favorite shots from Friday:

LED Love

April 8th, 2010

Inspired by some different things i saw on some blogs I followed, I thought of how people would do things before the wacom+photoshop+outerglow process was discovered. We took a simple LED light on the end of a utility tool I purchased at Target. Camera Settings to follow. We tried a few things. Sparklers looked the best but we only had 5 left over from the fourth of July and the photos came out over exposed. Can’t wait to try some new things!

Gmail Kills Apple Mail

February 25th, 2010

As a mac user, I have fully grown accustomed to the work flow, the ease of use, the nice UI’s and the all around good and easy flow of using mac apps.

Until today, when I was logged into my Gmail to chat using gChat. Have to have the window open to get the chats on your computer. We all know this and abide. BUT! Google told me about this thing called “Google Notifier”. Put a couple tools in my system bar, and a very nice icon in my dock. Now i get push notifications to my desktop of things that happen online to my Gmail, Tasks, gCal, and all the other Google products I use.

Push notifications, to my desktop…

This coupled with my Droid, is a far more useful and more in-sync workflow than what apple provided me with the iphone and the mac os. Main frustration averted: Mail.

Keeping track of my mail gets crazy. When I check my mail on my iPhone, it doesn’t mark it as “Read” on the server. So when I get home and open the apple Mail app on my desktop, it still treats all 30+ (sometimes more) emails like they are unread. I have my laptop, iPod (replaced my iPhone), & Droid. Now all of my contacts and messages and tasks stay in sync and are in real time.

This harmony was hard to find, but i welcome it!
